APPLICATIONS

The Kingspan TEK Building System consists of structural insulated roof and wall panels, which can be used to create buildings with a maximum of of 4 storeys. Because of their light weight of as little as 19kg/mē they are ideal for use, where heavy constructions are not possible.

STRUCTURAL INSULATED PANEL DIMENSIONS

Width: 200 mm (min) - 1245 mm (max) Length: 7450 mm (max) - for walls a maximum 3m storey height is allowed.

RECOMMENDED CONSTRUCTIONS

Internal/partition walls:

  • basic panel or timber stud with 12.5 mm plasterboard both sides.

External walls:

  • basic panel lined with 12.5 mm plasterboard inside and clad externally with an insulated render system with independent accreditation for use on the TEK Building System e.g. Permarock Kooltherm System;

  • basic panel lined with 12.5 mm vapour check plasterboard inside and externally brick-clad with a minimum 50 mm cavity between a breather membrane (attached to the outside of the panel) and the brick leaf; or

  • basic panel lined with 12.5 mm plasterboard inside and clad externally with a breather membrane and timber boarding on 25 x 50 mm vertical tanalised timber battens.

Roofs:

  • basic panel lined with 12.5 mm vapour check plasterboard inside and covered with a vapour permeable membrane, counter battens, tiling battens and slates/tiles externally.

Long lasting external weather proofing is a necessary part of the Kingspan TEK Building System.

The Kingspan TEK Building System is not recommended for cellars or basement constructions.

THERMAL PERFORMANCE

The thermal conductivity of the OSB 3 is 0.13 W/mK. That of the rigid urethane insulation core is 0.023 W/mK.

WATER VAPOUR RESISTIVITY

Vapour resistivity of Kingspan TEK Structural Insulated Panel components:

  • the rigid urethane core- 300 MNs/gm;

  • the OSB 3 facing - 500 MNs/gm.

RESISTANCE TO SOLVENTS, FUNGI & RODENTS

The insulation core is resistant to dilute acids, alkalis, mineral oil and petrol. It is not resistant to some solvent-based adhesive systems, particularly those containing methyl ethyl ketone. Adhesives containing such solvents should not be used in association with Kingspan TEK Building System. Kingspan TEK Building System components which have been in contact with harsh solvents, petrol, mineral oil or acids, or components that have been damaged in any way should not be used.

The Insulation core and facings used in the manufacture of Kingspan TEK Structural Insulated Panels resist attack by mould and microbial growth and do not provide any food value to vermin.

FIRE PERFORMANCE

When lined internally with 12.5 mm plasterboard the Kingspan TEK Building System will achieve Class O to the Building Regulations.
